Medicare Enrollment Now Open – What you need to know!

Medical Records & StethoscopeIt happens every year… and no, I’m not talking about Halloween.

I’m talking about the annual Medicare Enrollment period.

Starting around this time every year and extending into early December, seniors around the country have the opportunity to sign up for Medicare, and change or modify their plans…

Once the enrollment window closes, you’re locked in for the next 12 months.

Your options seem to be endless, but everyone is in agreement you’ve got to be careful when picking a plan (or a supplemental policy).

One big change is premiums are flat, but in some instances, the copay is sharply higher… not a problem if you don’t visit the doctor very often… but when you do, it will hit you in the pocket book.

Another is the change to provider networks.

This is critical as groups are modifying who is in their organization… and what doctors are included. Keep an eye out for changes, and ask your doctor’s front office about any changes.

Finally, drug costs are climbing… and a lot of that price pressure is being passed along to you and me. Expect your co-pay to jump for many medications.

If you’re confused or need help, often there are local resources available with counselors to walk you through your options… You might start at your local public library.

You can also get help from the medicare website – www.medicare.gov or its help-line at 800-633-4227.

Whatever you do, act fast as enrollment ends in early December.
