Tips and Tricks to Picking Medicare Part D Coverage

capsule-158568_150Medicare Part D can be confusing to people.

It’s the part of your coverage that covers prescriptions. And now’s the time when many people are reviewing their options and making changes.

Remember, you only have until December 7th to make changes…

Before you skip over this article thinking your coverage is just fine, let me give you a few tips that might make you think twice.

Tip #1 – Coverage changes every year.

Because coverage changes, there might be a better option for you… don’t assume the coverage you have now is still the best for you.

Did you know there are over 1,000 different coverage plans available nationwide? That’s a lot to search through… but based on your location in the US, your options will be narrowed down to a handful.

Tip #2 – First look at the drug coverage list.

This makes sense for those on regular medication – look at the list and make sure the drugs you take are on the list… no sense in getting a different program and then discovering you’re not covered!

Tip #3 – Check the networks

Many drugs are dispensed through pharmacies – and we recommend sticking with the big ones like Walgreens, CVS, or Rite Aid… because even if you travel, you’ll be able to access your prescriptions.

Tip #4 – Review costs

This should be your last step as you’ll already have thrown out coverage that don’t include your drugs for coverage… or use the right pharmacy networks. Remember, start with those things first… then compare pricing last.

And don’t be surprised if prices go up a bit… according to the information I’ve read, the average increase in coverage costs is about 4%.

Remember, you only have until December 7th to make your changes, so don’t delay. Hopefully these tips will help you find better and cheaper coverage for your drug needs!
